ten lawson

i reckon i'm pretty lucky to have an artist for a mother. i get to attend so many exhibitions, meet amazing creative people and visit new places. a while ago mum met the ace people behind tenlawson , a hairdressers that doubles as a gallery.
along with artist catherine hull sinclair, mum's latest body of work 'off the wall and on a whim,' opened on november twenty-eighth.

if you live around melbourne i advise you check it out (appointment only). anyhow its pretty funny because robyn rich, paints a lot of me and when i attend openings you find people looking at me then looking at the paintings, and discussing this in detail with their friends as if i couldn't hear them.

in keeping with my andy warhol obsession, i'm wearing a top printed with andy's famous artwork that graced the velvet underground's album cover.

overalls and yokoo

my job has had me working so much lately, so it has left minimal time for making  clothes, so the shop is pretty much non existent nowadays. though i've been creating some new designs to sell soon, so don't go away! these overalls are my latest creations, they are so comfy and super cute. linen bottoms and a pineapple cotton  top. little ruffles on the straps and ankles. so i'll be making them in different colours and prints and putting them in the shop ASAP!

i've never blogged about this lovely lady, but i most certainly should have. i've been infatuated by her work for a long while now and i finally bought myself this gorgeous chain scarf, (featured in two photos here). YOKOO is one talented girl, creating crocheted works of art. get your hands on her amazing accessories before she gets too famous ;)

and another amazing lady, is my mother. see this ink drawing below, it was created by Robyn Rich - none other than my mum. her instagram is beautiful, you can follow there if you search robynrich on ig. she's pretty talented and is not only an amazing artist but a pretty cool lady!

zoo twilights - missy higgins

ZOO TWILIGHTS is this wonderful initiative of melbourne zoo and their fight against the extinction of so many endangered species. And this years set of concerts is AMAZING!!!! The first one was MISSY HIGGINS, what a girl - she is amazing! I went with some gorgeous friends, ate delicious sushi, yummy lollies, looked at fascinating animals and listened to such beautiful video. the atmosphere was amazing, as is palpable in the video - you should watch it! or better yet buy tickets to the upcoming performances of other great aussie artists.....clare bowditch, lisa mitchell and georgia fair just to name a few!

pink potatoes!

i know this was a while ago but i thought i'd post it now seeing as I am hoping to get right back into blogging! fingers crossed anyway... so i finished high school in 2012, hurrah!!! I can actually say it was last year now, wow! Valedictory is like graduation and everyone gets dressed up all fancy and there are speeches and food and such like. Well me being me didn't want to wear the usually long dress in silky fabric so I went completely the opposite. I wanted a two piece outfit in bright colours on an organic unbleached fabric. this is the result!

I cut a triangle out of a potato and went crazy with neon pink kids paint (mixed with fabric medium) . It took forever but it was such fun. Also, my dog likes to help me sew...clearly and I like to sew outside.... I made a cropped top and a cute skirt, I felt like a little kid and when people around you are spending hundreds of dollars on a garment they may never wear again it was pretty cool to be comfortable and know i will get many a wear out of this baby! I teamed the outfit with a pair of gorgeous clear jellies and had a ball. I am so glad to be finished school, it is definitely time I got out of there though i do hope i will keep in contact (now and then) with some of the rad girls!

these are a few snaps from the night! much love xx

the last day at that place

oh how i had been waiting for this day to come! I loved most of my time at school, though I was more than ready to move on. My final day was a blast, we had sumo suits, slippery slides, scarecrow tiggy, fairy floss, mr whippe and lots more.

the woman in the school dress, is the head of vce - i cannot say enough good things about her, she is the best! she was never afraid to have a go at things and always willing to have a good time, she went down the slippery slide!!!!!

this was my tutorial group at the final assembly. each tute group had to pick something to do as they left the hall for the final time (until exams) and our tute made confetti with little pictures of Mr Hubbard (our tutorial leader) and we threw them out into the audience. the whole year level also made a video that we played at final assembly - this link is to youtube where you can watch if you desire, i must admit it is pretty hilarious!

much love xx

the day we dressed as men

so we are working backwards, after my computer dying i have realised that the reason i could not upload photos was the computer itself, not blogger - i apologise. so now, with my new machine i can upload photos! hurrah!!! so as I said we are working backwards, starting with yesterday and then i will post photos and words of the past few months.
my school is hilarious, we are always looking for an excuse to dress up and as it is our final year, my year level decided that for free dress day we should all dress like boys (we are an all girls school). as you can imagine it gave the rest of a school a great shock... we went to assembly first thing, sang like boys, the girls who had to speak in front of everyone, spoke like boys and acted like boys. it was brilliant - although i am dreadfully over school, it is days like this that make me remember how fulfilling my time with these kids has been. then during lunchtime we had a concert and my beautiful friends - rach, alana, em, katie and jord performed one directions 'one thing' i will try and upload the video it is hilarious, best thing ever!

so now i am on 'holidays' for two weeks, well if you can even call it holidays. i am working almost everyday, doing folios, studying for exams, applying for uni, working on the yearbook and catching up on sleep! so much to do and so little time, guess we'll see how it goes...

a little update

gah! technology is failing me yet again or I am failing it! it won't let me upload photos which is a terrible inconvenience (not really in the scheme of things, but it is darn annoying.) I have had a lovely few weeks; jordy turned 18, saw lisa mitchell, saw georgia fair, spent time with some beautiful people and had the most amazing eighteenth birthday. i decided to stop being vegan and just go back to being vegetarian, it has been a heartbreaking decision - i felt so happy within myself being vegan but my body told me otherwise, i have never been so lethargic and sick so i knew it had to be done. i'll update you about everything in more detail when i can once again upload picture, who knows when that will be?!?

Meet Me On The Streets: Pastel charms, Victoria St

Meet Me On The Streets: Pastel charms, Victoria St
As I walked around my favourite place a few months ago, I was stopped by a young woman. she asked to photograph me and i was somewhat shocked, she was kind and i think i was a tad bamboozled by the whole thing! it was nice that someone wanted to photograph my outfit especially because i had made it, it was really sweet. i never blogged about it, but when a friend posted it on my facebook i remembered it and decided to do so. enjoy

busy!

folios are funny funny things.... i love art and design so much but it is ridiculous how much it consumes me, it is all i think about and all i do right now. in between work, sewing and school I have no time it seems. it is crazy right now and yet i still keep dreaming, about next year and all it will bring, moving out, uni, a new job, getting my clothes into markets and such.

mexican night, our attempts to make pina coladas...they were interesting...

branch out

there is something so satisfying to know that what you do can help others. a few weeks ago my
friends and i organised 'branch out' a charity concert for the oaktree foundation. the money raised goes towards the education of children in cambodia, a resource that is severely lacking in their country. although it was stressful leading up to the event, the night ran so smoothly and it was just so beautiful to see everyone come together to support such a wonderful cause. i ran a little stall with my clothes and some other cute little items and it was quite successful, I had a swell time and it gave me an opportunity to show my stuff to the kids i spend all my time with.

everything.

More posts will finally be coming, I've kind of been on hiatus. School, work and general life seem to get in the way - which is all lovely but I feel a real sense of satisfaction when I actually write here. I look at all these beautiful blogs and I feel so inspired, I think inspiration also comes from posting as well. So here is my attempt at getting back to business, or so to speak.....

Whats been happening? I am now taking a break from photographing things to explore concepts but instead I just take photographs to capture the beautiful moments in life. I am also focusing predominantly on dressmaking, starting up my online store and getting my stuff out there. I had a stall at 'Branch Out' a charity concert for schools in Cambodia, I sold quite a few garments and had a super lovely evening. Skipping Girl Vinegar headlined and played their sweet, sweet tunes.

wednesday....

Today I had a lovely afternoon of board games, cupcakes, alex pettyfer movies and chatter. Before this however, I began work on a dress made with gorgeous fabric. I took a few shots....

Then tucked into the latest edition of 'FRANKIE,' it is so beautiful and this particular page features an amazing book, created by a local melbourne photographer, I ordered the book just moments ago. I am beyond excited.
have a swell day, much love
